NTP Alert – Who’s Next? Who will be the next Non Traditional Players (NTP) to become a major player in the agriculture / food sector? There are several hundred NTP candidates among investors, Sovereign Wealth Funds, and asset managers and a large number of them are at early stages of capital raising, deployment, and portfolio building.
I regularly consult with these NTP’s about their intentions, strategies, and plans to create value in the sector alone or with partners. They impress me with their creativity, analysis, and thoughtful approaches to establishing a sustainable platform across the value chain. Recent ideas include “natural” (non-synthetic) Ag input plays in seeds/Ag chemicals, organic and ABF protein production, vertical farming, and grain commodity and ingredient processing in both mainstream and off-the-beaten-track locations. The types of investment options being considered, and the capital at stake, are significant.
