Various news outlets are reporting that Stellapps Technologies – an Indian startup that leverages IoT, Big Data, Cloud, Mobility, and Data Analytics technologies to improve supply chain parameters in that country’s dairy industry – has raised $14 million in Series B funding.
The round was led by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and IndusAge Partners, with participation by Qualcomm Ventures and ABB Technology Ventures, the venture arm of the industrial technology company. Existing investors Omnivore Partners, Blume Ventures, Venture Highway, and Asia-focused venture group BEENEXT also participated. The funds raised will be used for product development and expansion.
The company collects sensor data from milking systems, animal wearables, and processing equipment suite of applications. The resulting information is analyzed and disseminated to customers through smart mobile devices. The goal is improve outcomes in milk production, animal health, and business management.
India is the world’s largest milk producer, with annual growth rate of 5.53 percent. The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DAHDF) is working to raising dairy farmers’ income, including by promoting the use of technology to raise milk production and productivity.
